High School
Students Ranging from Grades 9 – 12
Age & Grade Levels
The High School Academic Program spans four grade levels: Grade 9, Grade 10, Grade 11, and Grade 12.
We have two high school classes: a combination Grade 9 & 10, and a combination Grade 11 & 12.
School Hours & Break Times
The school day starts at 8 a.m. with student devotions and ends at 3:20 p.m. There are two break times. The morning break takes place from 10 a.m. to 10:25 a.m. High school students are released to return to their cabin or spend time in midships, with parental permission. The ship-wide lunch break is from 12 p.m. to 12:55 p.m. During this time, students are released from school to enjoy lunch as a family. School is operational Monday to Friday.
Africa Mercy Academy Staff, Class Sizes, & Student to Teacher Ratio
The Africa Mercy Academy has a team of four full-time specialist teachers who teach the core curriculum from Grade 6 to 12. We also have two specialist teachers who teach French, technology, and physical education from kindergarten to Grade 12. In addition, we have a number of part-time teachers who offer electives and specials for students.
The student to teacher ratio will not exceed 6:1 in our high school classes.
Global Mercy Academy Staff, Class Sizes, & Student to Teacher Ratio
The Global Mercy Academy has a team of four full-time specialist teachers who teach the core curriculum from Grade 6 to 12. We also have three specialist teachers who teach French, physical education and life skills, and technology from kindergarten to Grade 12. In addition, we have a number of part-time teachers who offer electives and specials for students.
The student to teacher ratio will not exceed 10:1 in high school classes.
Mentor Teachers
Each high school class has an assigned mentor teacher, who is responsible for teaching Bible to the class as well as offering pastoral care. They serve as the primary contact person for students and parents.
Instruction Time
Each high school grade has 35 forty-five-minute lessons per week.
Graduation Requirements
High school students need to earn a minimum of 26 academic credits within the four years of high school to graduate from the Mercy Ships Academy.

Core Subject Areas
Our academic program includes five core subject areas:
- Bible
- Mathematics
- Language & Arts
- Science
- Social Studies
Within the Mercy Ships core curriculum, students are required to complete a minimum of 4 academic credits in each core subject, for a total of 20 academic credits.
Electives, Specials, & Enrichment Subject Areas
In addition to the core subjects, we offer additional electives or specials in three different areas:
- French
- Physical Education
- Computers (Technology)
Within the Mercy Ships core curriculum, students are required to complete a minimum of 6 academic credits, including 2 credits in French, 2 credits in physical education, and 2 credits in computers (technology). Students also have the option to take online courses to earn two additional credits. For more information, please ask about our high school graduation requirements.
