Early Education
Children Ranging from 3 – 5 Years Old
Age & Grade Levels
The Early Education Program spans children from three to five years old with two class sub-groups: year 1 of preschool is for three to four year olds and year 2 of preschool is for four to five year olds.
Preschool
Children enjoy learning through dramatic play, music and poetry, sensory learning activities, and artistic opportunities. Biblical stories, language development, scientific experimentation, and basic mathematical concepts are among the lessons learned.
Year One
Year 1 of preschool is offered for children turning three years old by September 30 of the school year.
Year Two (Pre-Kindergarten)
Year 2 of preschool is for children turning four years old by September 30 of the school year. This program is a pre-kindergarten preparatory year. Students start school one hour earlier than their three-year-old classmates and spend this first hour focusing on literacy and numeracy readiness.
School Hours
Preschool Year 1: Students attend school from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Monday-Friday.
Preschool Year 2: Students attend school from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., Monday-Friday.
Staff, Class Sizes, & Student to Teacher Ratio
Preschool has one full-time teacher and the Global Mercy Academy will also have a preschool assistant. The student to teacher ratio will not exceed 10:1 for the Africa Mercy Academy and 14:2 for the Global Mercy Academy.
Potty Training & Bathroom use
All preschool students need to be “potty trained” and no longer use diapers or nappies during the day. We do understand that accidents happen, but the preschooler needs to be able to use the bathroom fairly independently.
