Hello!
My name is Trina Ramirez and I will be the Preschool teacher on the Africa Mercy in January! Let me tell you about myself and how I got here to work in the Academy. I grew up in Guatemala as a missionary kid and moved to the states when I was 15. So that makes I am swirly?. Which has come in handy when traveling the world.
I was first on board in 2010 as a housekeeper. I loved it, but never thought I was going to come back to serve. When I use to see the teacher come and sit down for lunch, I always thought they were so cool. They seem so much older and wiser then I was. I was just out of high school and didn’t know what I wanted to do, and teaching seemed out of my league.
Eleven years later I am getting ready to fly over to the Canary Islands this coming Sunday to meet the AFM and I can’t tell you how excited I am! As a missionary kid I had many teachers come to teach me and my siblings. I remember looking forward to who would come next and what their stories were. Now that I am going to be a teacher on board, I am hoping to bring just as much excitement as my tutors did for me.
I would have never guessed God would call me back to Mercy Ships but also back as a teacher! Its funny how little desires in our hearts are the ones that God make know loud and clear. Here I am waiting to go back on board to the group that I thought was too cool and to out of my league. God does have a sense of humor.
I am so thankful already for my group of teachers, principals, children, and superintendent! This is the first time that I will have a group of coworkers from all over the world and we are all bringing different strengths to this school. We are all different, but we have the same goals. I am so glad that I got this time to see how things work on this side of the world so I can be ready to start working on board. Also its been such a blessing to develop relationships with the team here so that we are connected miles and miles apart.
Thank you Brian and Nikki!
