“Some of my favorite things about teaching onboard the Africa Mercy are the awesome fieldtrips we get to go on and the amazing things our students have a chance to see, hear, and touch that they, and I, have never seen or heard or touched before! Last week the kindergartners and I gathered up our favorite stuffies and toys and headed down to Deck 3 to visit the radiology department. The team down there (Lenny and Candace) were just incredible, taking the time to explain to my students what x-rays are and why patients need to have x-rays taken to help them get better. Each of the kindergartners had a chance to pick out some toys that he or she wanted to see an x-ray of and we found some pretty interesting things inside our toys!
Can you spot below:
- The teddy bear with the voicebox (we didn’t know he had)?
- The apple with a paperclip hidden inside?
- The rhino stuffed animal with a clothespin (or “peg” depending on where you’re from) hidden inside?”
